Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 8, 2026

Overview

Feed Transplant is a browser extension that lets you share your YouTube home feed with friends and try their recommendations. Privacy is at the core of how we built this product. We do not access your Google account, track your browsing, or sell your data.

What Data We Collect

When you click "Share" in the extension, we collect only the video metadata visible on your YouTube home page:

  • Video titles
  • Thumbnail URLs
  • Channel names
  • View counts
  • Video durations
  • Video URLs

We never collect your Google account credentials, watch history, subscriptions, private playlists, or any data beyond what is publicly visible on your YouTube home page at the moment you click Share.

Anonymous Identification

We generate a random UUID (universally unique identifier) stored locally in your browser. This ID is not linked to your name, email, Google account, or any personal information. It is used solely to associate shared feeds with a browser session.

How We Use Your Data

  • Feed sharing — your YouTube home feed metadata is stored temporarily so your friends can view it via a private link.
  • Feed injection — when you visit a friend's shared link, the feed data is stored locally in your browser so the extension can display it as a tab on YouTube.

Data Storage & Retention

  • Shared feed data is stored on our servers and expires automatically.
  • Local data (anonymous ID, cached feed) is stored in your browser via chrome.storage.local and localStorage. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.
  • We do not maintain long-term databases of user activity or feed history.

Third-Party Services

We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use third-party analytics that track individual users. We do not load remote code or external scripts at runtime — all extension code is bundled at build time.

Permissions

The extension requests only the minimum permissions required:

  • Access to youtube.com — to read your home feed when you click Share and to inject a friend's feed as a native-looking tab.
  • Storage — to save your anonymous ID and cached feed data locally.

We do not request access to your Google account, browsing history, bookmarks, or any other browser data.

Your Rights

  • You can stop sharing at any time by simply not clicking Share.
  • You can remove all local data by uninstalling the extension.
  • You can request deletion of any server-stored feed data by contacting us.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
